Overview
The park can be accessed via the Nanyuki–Isiolo Road through the Sirimon Gate, or through the Nyeri–Nanyuki Road near Naro Moru. It is also accessible through Chogoria on the Embu–Meru Road, approximately 150 km north of Nairobi.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities including game viewing, camping, mountain climbing, cave exploration, trekking, and guided Mount Kenya climbing adventures.
Climbing Mount Kenya offers a spectacular trekking experience through the scenic Sirimon Valley, away from the busier tourist routes. The trail passes through diverse vegetation and climate zones, ranging from dense rainforest and bamboo forests to alpine vegetation and snow-capped peaks within a relatively short distance. No technical climbing skills are required to reach Point Lenana (4,985 m / 16,400 ft), commonly known as the “walking summit.” After descending from the mountain, climbers can relax at a comfortable lodge before returning to Nairobi.
Of Mount Kenya’s three main peaks — Batian, Nelion, and Lenana — only Point Lenana is accessible to trekkers, while Batian and Nelion are reserved for experienced technical climbers. Mount Kenya remains one of Africa’s top destinations for hiking, trekking, walking safaris, and mountain climbing adventures.
